Checking Out Takoma’s Newish Gardening Venture
I recently got in touch with Marie Marcogliese to learn more about her relatively new and unique business. Our exchange, which has been edited, is below.
What does everybody need to know about In Rosie’s Garden?
This endeavor began at the beginning of COVID as a barter system with neighbors. I have always been a gardener and happened to have an abundance of seeds, so I just started planting extra — not knowing what to expect of the COVID shutdown or the demand from friends and neighbors for fresh, organic plants or produce, flowers, herbs and veggies.
How did you come up with the name?
Ahhh, that’s easy. I have a 1962 Cadillac named Rosie (although she’s white and not rose or pink). She’s in need of repair but is my garden muse.
Would you tell me a little bit about yourself? How long have you lived in Takoma?
I’ve lived in Takoma for over twenty-four years now. I was a marketer of higher education for over twenty years — primarily at community colleges. As a marketer in education, staffs were small so you wore many hats and had to expand your skill sets. Hence, in addition to strategy and five-year vision planning, you also had to be a master communications professional, webmaster, media negotiator, videographer, social media guru and…
