More Mathseeds with Amaranth

Last night we enjoyed a quiet and pleasant evening at Tiny Indigo. It’s been so cold in the Washington, D.C. area!

Initially, Leandra, Ocean, Amaranth and I had planned to watch a movie together. But we struggled to find something that everyone could agree on. So, Ocean and Amaranth did their own thing. And Leandra and I watched something else.

A little before bedtime Amaranth excitedly said: “Taylor, I’m ready to do my Mathseeds.” She had a big smile on her face when she told me.

Mathseeds was part of the homeschooling curriculum that the girls had been doing (before they started attending Silver Oaks). Sometimes, when I’d watch the girls, Amaranth and I would work on Mathseeds together. It turned into a special bonding time for the two of us. I miss working on math problems with her. I’ve missed connecting with her in that way.

Last night we ended up doing Mathseeds for over an hour. Amaranth seemed to grow more excited as time when on. Eventually, I grabbed her toothbrush and then she went upstairs to meet Leandra and Ocean.

But it was a very nice and unexpected moment.

Bonding.

Getting to grow with the kids — to really build something with them — remains a wonderful experience.
