On Police Brutality and Solidarity

No, I’m not trying to subsume the #BLM movement or use the opportunity to raise something that happens only occasionally in Sri Lanka. It’s much more than that. It’s systemic. In 2016, the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka found that “torture is routinely used in all parts of the country regardless of the nature of the suspected offence for which the person is arrested.” Ethnic minorities, LGBTIQ persons, low-income earners — all frequent victims. So if we don’t raise it now, then when?
