With support from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), the co-op is partnering with Crossroads Community Food Network to expand Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits for people purchasing fresh fruits and vegetables.

The USDA anticipates that eligible shoppers will spend $450,000 over the course of the four-year grant period. This spending “will be matched with $450,000 in incentives ($250,000 from federal funds and $200,000 from state and local matching dollars).”

The larger initiative is part of the Gus Schumacher Nutrition Incentive Program.

This is another reminder of the important contributions people and organizations are making on the food justice and food security fronts in Takoma.
